The act of play is essential to me.
Sometimes I’m wary when other adults

express such sentiments. But there

are some remnants of childhood that

never leave: a confusion about who

we are, or how to get what we want. I

have a cast of characters in my mind

that I regularly don or consult. Some

are more or less public, more or less

nuanced. But, without them, I would not

create anything of substance.
